1. My hobbies, leisure time activities, jobs, professions
I am going to begin with a definition of leisure time. Also I am going to talk about leisure activities in general, why they are important and what groups we can activities divide into. Afterwards I will talk about my own activities and the way I spend my free time.
Not just leisure but working is important, too.
So I decided to mention some interesting and important jobs from my point of view.
And then if I have enough time, I really hope so, I will tell you about my future plans.
Leisure time is time when we are not working, eating or even sleeping. It is time before or after all these activities and many others as doing homework, house working. But borders between leisure and compulsory activities are very often unclear. We often do work-oriented tasks as a hobby or we learn by the form that could be called leisure activity.
There are words of a psychologist (John Neulinger, 1980):
For an experience to qualify as leisure, it must meet three criteria: 1) The experience is a state of mind. 2) It must be entered into voluntarily. 3) It must be intrinsically motivating of its own merit.
We can divide leisure activities into 2 groups - Active and passive. These days many workers don't do hard physical work so sports like cycling, running, playing soccer which demand physical activity are great way how to relax. But not only physically demanding activities are included.
There are other chess, collecting stamps and so on...these way of spending time is also active because of mental effort.
Passive leisure is something that for example professional sportsmen would look for.
It could be sitting on sofa and watching TV, going to the cinema, gambling on machine slots.
Why are hobbies, leisure time and everything I talk about important?
We need to relax. If we work we also need to get the energy back. It is not just through sleeping we also need to enjoy ourselves and that is why we should care about our free time. It is proved that workers work better if they are relaxed and are not just working all the time.
Having hobbies is the best way how to fight against the stress.
Sport is the main hobby for me. I was always very active and needed to charge the energy.
Especially when I am sitting all day in classroom it is a great feeling to go out to go play football, to go cycling or even go clubbing.
This is the active way how I spend my free time, I could also mention another hobbies for instance it is computer and Internet. Or I used to play a bass guitar.
But from time to time I need to be passive as much as possible. I play futsal every day during a week and then I feel really exhausted. By this time I am happy sitting on a sofa, lying in my bed and watching some interesting movies or serials.
It is important to have enough leisure time so that we not become workaholics but it doesn't mean not to work and just enjoy yourself, because being a slacker is absolutely not something we should find.
I talked a lot about leisure but job is another important thing.
Maybe it is more important. It is hard to say but we usually spend more time working than we have for our hobbies.
So it is important to have a job we like... or just to some extend.
Jobs like professional footballer, hockey player, tennis player and racer are very interesting from this point of view.
I mentioned them because these people do as a job something we would classify as a leisure time activity for as.
But to be honest they do it all the time and it is job for them as well.
It is great that everyone is different so we have different things we like. It
results in fact that we could have many different professions and hopefully
most of the people would like their owns.
On the other hand I think there are many jobs which no one like to do but...no
way, somebody has to do that.
I wouldn't like to offence anybody saying his beloved profession is that which
nobody wants to do. I won’t say that to anyone; I just wanted to mention that they are usually
also very important.
In near future I don't have to choose exactly a job but I must choose what I
want to do after high school.
I am preparing to pass the FCE exam to get the certificate.
I am sure I want to study university probably Czech Technical University in Prague. There I would
like to join a program to get abroad for few months maybe a year. During studies
I want to get some practical skills by working in a company so that I could get
a good job after graduation.
It was all about career but I still want to play futsal and keep getting better
but important is enjoying it.
I hope I will keep in touch with all my friends from high school and they will
still remind me that there are more important things than studying, working and
even futsal.
