Na přelomu století se na uměleckém nebi olomoucké Unie výtvarných umělců objevila nová hvězda: výtvarník a přítel Oldřich Schnabl. 
            Jako chlapec navštěvoval Lidovou školu umění (dnes Základní umělecká škola), kde ho učil pan učitel Dočkal a významný přerovský malíř Pavel Kotas. Na střední ani vysokou školu uměleckého směru se nedostal, protože neměl potřebný třídní původ. Vyučil se tedy pivovarským sládkem. Výtvarný talent, kterým byl obdařen nešlo jen tak potlačit a Oldřich kreslil a maloval až se mu od ruky prášilo. Brzy uplatňoval své výtvarné vlohy v nejrůznějších grafických a aranžérských ateliérech.
            Stal se pracovníkem v aranžovně Pramen, později v propagačním atelieru Parku kultury a oddechu v Olomouci. V této pozici proslul jako zručný písmomalíř i nápaditý tvůrce reklamních materiálů a tiskovin. Tvořivé zaměření jeho práce mu usnadnilo seznámení s olomouckými výtvarníky. Například s malířem Stanislavem Menšíkem, Lubomírem Schneiderem, Františkem Bělohlávkem, a také s brněnským Janem Rajlichem.
            V roce 2008 uskutečnil Schnabl velkou samostatnou výstavu svých počítačových grafik/obrazů v galerii G, v dnešní Galerii města Olomouce. Na zmíněné výstavě i v ateliéru u něj doma, kam mne pozval, jsem poprvé viděl jeho práce a byl jsem překvapen, protože to bylo něco úplně nového, nevídaného. V Olomouci se objevil člověk, který se vyjadřuje jazykem geometrie! V té době se Oldřich stal členem OVUO a já jsem upozornil na jeho výstavu tehdejšího kurátora moderní sbírky Národní galerie Dr. Jiřího Valocha. Valoch nelenil, a protože sdílel mé opravdové nadšení, publikoval o Schnablovi článek v časopisu Ateliér. V té době uspořádal celou řadu samostatných výstav: v Litovli, v Třeboni, v Českých Budějovicích, Telči i v Praze. S UVUO se zúčastňoval kolektivních prezentací i v zahraničí. Roku 2014 se stal členem výboru UVUO.
             Schnablova tvorba těží z možností vektorového grafického programu CorelDraw. Oldřich využívá možnosti počítače jako pohotového nástroje, který v jeho tvůrčích záměrech funguje stejně jako dříve tužka nebo štětec. Jeho tvorba je osobitá a pokud vím, nemá v České republice obdobu. Jeho obrazy, nebo chcete-li grafiky, jsou nápadité a mají vždy vtip a estetický náboj. Úžasné bohatství tvarů a kultivovaná barevnost jeho prací svědčí o racionálním přístupu k tvorbě. Jednobarevné kompozice vynikají perfektním fázováním základního tvaru v přesně zvolených valérech jedné barvy.
 
            Přeji příteli Oldřichovi mnoho dalších úspěchů a mnoho zdraví.

At the turn of the century a new star appeared in the artistic heaven of Union of Olomouc Artists: artist and friend Oldřich Schnabl. Oldřich will celebrate his 80th birthday.

As a boy he attended the School of Arts where he was taught by Mr. Dočkal and a renowned painter Pavel Kotas from Přerov. He was not expected to further studies in arts at any high school or University for his unwanted class of origin. He became a brewer. His artistic talent could not be ignored, so Oldřich drew and painted widely. Soon he started to present his gift in a various graphic and arrangement studios.

He became a coworker in arrangement studio Pramen, later on in promotion ateliers in Olomouc for various companies and institution, like e.g. Progres or Farmakon. He became famous for his work with letter typology and as a creative person in advertisement. His type of profession, creative in a sense brought him closer to Olomouc artists. He got to know the painter Stanislav Menšík, Lubomír Schneider, František Bělohlávek and also Jan Rajlich from Brno.

In 2008, Schnabl opened his big exhibition of graphics in Gallery G, today the City Gallery. At the later mentioned exhibition and also in his atelier I had the first opportunity to observe thoroughly his work, which was something new, unusual indeed. There is a person in Olomouc who expresses himself by means of geometry! At that time Oldřich became a member of the Union of Artists of Olomouc and I presented his work to Dr. Jiří Valoch, the curator of modern arts of National gallery. Mr. Valoch with enthusiasm published a paper on Schnabl in revue named Atelier. From that moment, Oldřich opened many exhibitions in Litovel, Třeboň, České Budějovice, Telč and in Prague too. With other members from Union of Artists of Olomouc he exhibited also abroad. In 2014 he became a member of board of the union.

Schnabl’s work benefits from possibilities of vector graphical programme CorelDraw. Oldřich uses computer as a swift tool which works for him in the same way as a pencil and a brush. His work is distinctive and as far as I know, he does not have a competitor in the Czech Republic. His paintings, or graphics, are imaginative and are always witty and aesthetical. The amazing richness in shape and colour are proving his work to be approached in a rational way.

 Um die Jahrhundertwende stieg am Himmel der Vereinigung der Bildenden Künstler der Region Olmütz ein neuer Stern auf, Maler und Freund Oldřich Schnabl. Heute feiert er seinen 80. Geburtstag.
 Als kleiner Junge besuchte er Kunstkurse, in denen er unter anderem vom berühmten Maler Pavel Kotas aus Prerau (Přerov) unterrichtet wurde. Eine weiterführende Künstlerakademie oder eine ähnliche Schule durfte er nicht besuchen, dafür fehlte ihm die nötige „Herkunft aus der Arbeiterklasse“. So lernte er Bierbrauer. Seine gestalterische Begabung ließ sich jedoch nicht unterdrücken, er malte und zeichnete, wo er nur konnte. Bald konnte er sein Talent auch in diversen Dekorationsateliers einsetzen.
   
           Er arbeitete in der Dekorationsabteilung von Pramen, später in der Werbeabteilung im Kulturhaus Olmütz, in Progres und Farmakon. In dieser Position machte er sich einen Namen als kunstfertiger Literatenmaler und geistreicher Gestalter von Werbematerialien und Drucksachen. Durch die kreative Ausrichtung seiner Arbeit lernte er viele Künstler und Maler aus Olmütz persönlich kennen: Stanislav Menšík, Lubomír Schneider, František Bělohlávek, ebenfalls Jan Rajlich aus Brünn. 2008 veranstaltete Herr Schnabl eine eigene große Ausstellung von Computergrafiken und -bildern in der Galerie G, der heutigen Galerie der Stadt Olmütz. Dort und auch in seinem Atelier, wohin er mich eingeladen hat, sah ich seine Arbeiten zum ersten Mal und war sehr überrascht und beeindruckt. Es war etwas ganz Neues, Beispielloses. In Olmütz findet man einen Menschen, der die Sprache der Geometrie spricht!

          Ungefähr zur gleichen Zeit wurde er Mitglied der Vereinigung der Bildenden Künstler der Region Olmütz. Ich erwähnte seine Ausstellung vor dem damaligen Kurator der Nationalgalerie Dr. Jiří Valoch. Der veröffentlichte umgehend einen Artikel über Oldřich Schnabl in der Zeitschrift „Atelier“. In der Zeit veranstaltete er einige Ausstellungen: in Littau (Litovel), Wittingau (Třeboň), in Budweis (České Budějovice), Teltsch (Telč), aber auch in Prag. Zusammen mit der Vereinigung nahm er auch an Sammelaustellungen im Ausland teil. Seit 2014 ist er Mitglied des Vorstandes der Künstlervereinigung.

          Sein Werk schöpft aus der Vielfalt des Grafikprogramms CorelDraw. Oldřich benutzt den Computer und seine Möglichkeiten so, wie er es früher mit seinem Stift oder Pinsel tat: kreativ, schlagfertig und innovativ. Seine Werke sind individuell und haben - soweit ich weiß - in der Tschechischen Republik keine Parallele. Seine Bilder (oder Grafiken, wenn Sie wollen) sind phantasievoll, geistreich, haben stets ihren Witz, eine Pointe und sind voller Ästhetik. Die verblüffende Vielfalt und kultivierte Farbgebung seiner Werke bestätigen seinen rationalen Zugang zur schöpferischen Arbeit.

          Meinem Freund Oldřich wünsche ich viele weitere Erfolge und viel Gesundheit.
