Ekvádor - Quito, Galápagos

Další navštívenou zemí je Ekvádor (15mil. obyv., 280tis. km2). Má geograficky téměř vše – hory, pláže, Galapágy a Amazonii. My jsme strávili pár dní v Quitu (2mil. obyv.), které leží v údolí mezi horami, obklopené vulkány, některé jsou činné. Město leží ve výšce 2.800m a my jsme se při výletu dostali až do 4.100m a mohli se tak kochat výhledem na několik sopek se zasněženými vrcholky. Quito je moderní město, ovšem ne tak hezké jako Bogota, ale má krásné historické centrum.
Největší raritou tu asi je rovník, na který si člověk může stoupnout, jednou nohou být na severní a druhou na jižní polokouli. Zkusili jsme si pár triků, např. jak postavit vajíčko na hlavičku hřebíku, což lze jen na rovníku.
Z Galapág jsme byli trochu rozpačití, je tu sice období sucha, ale takhle pustou krajinu, něco jako v Mexiku či na Kanárech, jsme si nepředstavovali. Suché stromy, láva, minimálně zeleně. V prosinci, kdy začíná období dešťů, se to sice zlepší, ale bujná vegetace tu rozhodně není. Za zvířaty se musí jezdit jen na určitá místa určitých ostrovů. Ale zato se k nim pak můžeme přiblížit na pár metrů. Legrační jsou lachtani, lezou i do hotelů, moji oblíbenci leguáni jsou na každém kroku, jak suchozemští, tak vodní, sem tam se dají vidět velké suchozemské i vodní želvy a hejna ptáků. Určitě je zajímavé tu být, ale ráj je to spíše pro odborníky zoology a geology.
Počasí na obydlené části ostrova St. Cruz, které je jakýmsi turistickým centrem, nic moc, neustále pod mrakem, občasné mrholení a téměř žádné sluníčko, max. 23.st.C. Za 6 dní našeho pobytu se objevilo jen jedno odpoledne! Na severní části ostrova ovšem praží neustále! My jsme ubytování v zajímavém rodinném hotýlku, kam se z městečka dostaneme jen s vodním taxi.
Ekvádorci jsou hodně malí a příjemní lidé. V zemi se jako měna používá americký dolar, vypadá to tu bezpečně. V Quitu je momentálně o 7h méně než doma, na Galapágách o 8h!

Other country we have visited is Ecuador (15mil. pop., 280tis. Km2). The country has geographically almost everything - mountains, beaches, the Galapagos Islands and the Amazon region.
We spent a few days in Quito (2mil. inhab.), which lies in a valley between the mountains, surrounded by volcanoes, some of which are active. The city lies at an altitude of 2800 m! and we got during the trip up to 4100 m! and had marvelous views of several snow-capped volcanoes. Quito is a modern city, but not as nice as Bogota, but has a beautiful historical center.
The biggest curiosity here is the equator, on which a person can stand, one foot to be on the north and one in the southern hemisphere. We tried a few tricks, such as how to build an egg on the head of the nail, which can only be done on the equator.
We were a bit disappointed from Galapagos, although there is a drought, but this desolate landscape, like in Mexico or the Canaries, we did not imagine. Dry trees, lava, at least green. In December, when the rainy season starts, it will strengthen, but that is not definitely the lush vegetation. For animals we must go to certain places only to certain islands. But perfect is we can be very close, just few meters of animals. Funny are sea lions, they even climb into the hotels, my favorite iguanas are everywhere, both terrestrial and aquatic, here there can be seen a large terrestrial and aquatic turtles and flocks of birds. It is certainly interesting to be here, but rather it is a paradise for professionals’ zoology and geology.
Weather of populated part of St. Cruz Island, that is kind of a tourist center, is not so nice and warm, constantly under a cloud, intermittent drizzle and almost no sun, temperature is max 23.st.C. During 6 days of our stay, there was only one afternoon with visible sun! In the northern part of the island is shining always!
We are accommodated in beautiful family small hotel where to get in is possible only with a water taxi.
People in Ecuador are very small and nice to tourists. Country uses as a currency U.S. dollar, and looks safe.
